Our doctors have been educating the next generation of young eye doctors, both locally and internationally.

Dr Ang was the Head of the Department of Vitreoretinal surgery in the National University Hospital, Singapore and can rightly be described as the father of vitreoretinal surgery in Singapore. He has trained a whole generation of vitreoretinal surgeons. He has lectured internationally and performed live surgery on many occasions.

Dr Chee was part of the Residency training committee, involved in teaching of young ophthalmology trainees. She continues to mentor the young doctors as well as teach the undergraduates from Yong Loo Lin Medical School and the post-graduate students from DUKE-NUS medical school. Dr Chee was an adjunct associate scientist of the Singapore Eye Research Institute and is currently a reviewer for the oculoplastics Journal : Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery (OPRS). She has also lectured internationally and conducted courses in the area of Oculoplastics.

Dr Koh’s expertise in medical retinal diseases and their treatment means that he is much sought after as a teacher. Indeed, he frequently has overseas fellows attached to him to learn. He is also frequently invited as a guest speaker to international meetings. Of late, he was the Congress Vice President for the Asia-Pacific Association of Ophthalmology meeting held in Singapore in 2006. This was a very successful meeting which brought the current development in ophthalmology to the Asia-Pacific.

Dr Ong was the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Singapore National Eye Centre. He oversees and structures the training of the next generation of ophthalmologists. Recognised as an authority on all aspects of surgical retina, he is invited to many international retinal meetings and demonstrates retinal surgery frequently.

Dr Su was past Deputy Head of the Training & Education Department, as well as Associate Program Director of the Residency Program at Singapore National Eye Centre. He helped to establish the Ophthalmology Residency Training in Singapore by planning the training curriculum and evaluation processes. For many years, Dr Su had been active in training younger doctors in the techniques of clinical examination, cataract and glaucoma surgery, as well as glaucoma laser. In 2013, he was voted Best Cataract Teacher by the trainees at the Singapore National Eye Centre. Dr Su continues to mentor younger doctors at the Singapore National Eye Centre, teaching them in clinic and the operating theatre. He has also conducted courses and lectured in many local and international meetings, teaching the finer points of the diagnosis and management of glaucoma.

Dr Yeoh was recognized as the best teacher in SNEC in the year 2000, an award which was decided by the trainee doctors themselves and an award which he values highly.. He has run a highly rated course, teaching basic phacoemulsification of cataracts for the past decade at the annual American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting in the USA. He sits with and teaches young trainee eye doctors the nuances of cataract surgery every week in the Singapore National Eye Centre. On a macro level, Dr Yeoh has perfected the art of organizing scientific conferences that have impact, that make a difference. He has organized numerous conferences, of which the following stand out: the 20th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons held in Hanoi, Vietnam, September 2007. He was also the Chairman of the 18th SNEC International Meeting in March 2008. He has demonstrated live cataract surgery many times and is a frequent speaker on cataract and retinal topics in international meetings.
